Samsung's plasma range 2011

Samsung has unveiled their 2011 plasma TVs with slim designs and thinner bezels than ever. Expect new D8000, D7000 and D6500 plasma ranges with 3D, deeper blacks and 1 inch larger panels.

Samsung D8000 plasma



Samsung’s new flagship model is the D8000. It has a slim design measuring just 1.5 inches (3.5 cm) in depth and Samsung has also slimmed down the bezel around the plasma panel. D8000 has a brushed aluminum look (probably made from plastic) and the four-legged stand that Samsung introduced in 2010. The stand also has a swivel function.
The Real Black Filter and a so-called LCE technology (Local Contrast Enhancer) should improve black levels to compete with Panasonic’s plasma TVs according to a Samsung employee. The Real Black filter also reduces reflections in bright room.



Samsung D6500 plasma
A somewhat strange move by Samsung is the choice of new screen sizes. The 50-inch segment is gone and replaced by a 51-inch screen size. The 63-inch screen size has been replaced by a 64-inch segment. Samsung adds that even though the plasma panels are larger the actual TVs are not, simply because of the thinner bezel.
All the Smart TV features have been integrated. You can access internet services such as YouTube and Facebook or add new services later on with the Samsung Apps Store. The plasma TVs also have built-in Wi-Fi, DLNA and USB.

Samsung’s 2011 Touch Remote

Samsung’s new Touch remote (see above) is bundled with the D8000 range.

Naturally, 3D is still a key selling point in 2011 and 3D has been integrated even in the cheaper D6500 range. Samsung says that 3D picture quality has been improved and the new 3D glasses are lighter than ever.

Availability
Samsung’s 2011 plasma TV will be available in shops from Spring 2011. These are the US models and the EU models will vary only slightly. We will return with more information soon

Ik vind eerlijk gezegd zo'n remote met touchscreen niet echt handig, ik vind een bakje voor tv moet toch nog goed in de hand liggen en je moet de knopjes "blindelings" kunnen vinden en voelen...

alé heb toch van verschillende mensen gehoord dat bv. zo'n harmony (rechthoekige) met groot touchsceen niet echt handig is voor te zappen...

Handig is dan weer wel dat het oplicht...

Wanneer ik naar TV kijk is mijn kamer meestal vrij goed verduisterd. Bij een afstandsbediening zonder verlichting is het daarom soms eens zoeken naar de juiste knop.

Trekt wel heel goed op die iPhone4 vind ik...

trekt er inderdaad op, je hebt ook remotes die oplichten he, mijn remote van mijn tv doet dit ook

Je hebt dat inderdaad. Maar mijn TV/Dune/Digicorder doet dit bv niet. Gelukkig heb ik wel een Harmony One

Samsung’s 2011 Touch Remote:

Most TV remote controls are not exactly great looking. Samsung is now trying to introduce something new and fresh for consumers with their Touch Remote. The new Touch Remote not only takes care of the TV, it also lets you access photos, music and video on the 3-inch touch screen.

By connecting Samsung’s Touch Remote to your wireless home network, you can access photos, music and video from other DLNA-enabled devices in your home. If you want to share the picture or video clip with the party, you can transfer the media files to the large TV screen without hassle.

The Touch Remote is beautiful and elegant, even though it’s not exactly a fresh design but rather a iPhone 4 inspired approach. The 3-inch screen has a resistive touch screen with different icons on the home screen.

The Touch Remote has a full QWERTY keyboard function which makes it easy to use the integrated Smart TV functionality in the new Samsung flat panel TVs. It’s also a universal remote that can control other devices via Bluetooth or infrared.

Samsung's new Touch Remote comes bundled with Samsung's new D8000 LED range and D8000 plasma range, and can be purchased separately for other Samsung 2011 and 2010 TVs with wireless network access. Samsung RMC30D will be available from April-May 2011 with Samsung's 2011 TVs. The price has not been announced.
